Pippa Middleton’s Wedding Cake
The society wedding of the year is almost here. On Saturday Pippa Middleton will wed hedge fund manager James Matthews at St Marks Church, Englefield, Berkshire. As the sister of the Duchess of Cambridge, and with the third and fourth in line to the throne having starring roles it’s the wedding everybody is talking about. But at La Belle Cake Company for us it’s all about the cake. Who’s making Pippa Middleton’s Wedding Cake and what will it look like?
As always these details are shrouded in secrecy. Here are our predictions of what will influence the design and whats Pippa’s wedding cake may look like.
Wedding cakes are usually influenced by the style and design of dress. The rumour is that Giles Deacon, a fashion designer best known for his playful designs, has designed Pippa’s wedding dress. While his couture designs feature bold prints I predict that Pippa’s dress will be fresh white, with white embellishments.
It seems likely that after Catherine’s gorgeous Alexander McQueen gown Pippa will avoid lace and will have a more geometric design yet floaty design that shows off her gorgeous figure.
Following the ceremony at the quaint English Church an estimated 300 guests will head to Carol and Michael Middleton’s back garden . All 18 acres of it! A spectacular glass marque has been erected in the grounds of the Middleton family home. Known as an orangery, the marque made from a steel frame and glass, enables guests to enjoy the beautiful grounds. They will be able to mingle among the landscaped gardens and sculpted flower beds. With such beauty surrounding the reception venue we predict that florals, in the form of exquisite sugar flowers, will feature in the cake design.
The chosen florists for the wedding are said to be Lavender Green Flowers. The same company was chosen by the Countess of Wessex when she wed Prince Edward in 1999.
Experts at Bridebook.co.uk said: “Considering Pippa’s elegant style and the current trends within the wedding industry we expect to see at least one, if not more, of the following: hanging floral and foliage canopy within the marquee, large striking displays at the entrance and a flower arch over the church entrance, and understated tones such as whites, pale blush matched with accents of green or brighter florals. Expect to see lots of peonies – a wedding favourite due to it’s beauty and symbolism for a happy marriage!”
Since no names have been mentioned as to who could possibly be making the wedding cake due to the secrecy surrounding the wedding we cannot predict what the cake will look like based on the cake makers style.
As a result we have come up with a design for based upon what we have heard in the press. Here are our predictions for Pippa Middleton’s wedding cake.
With almost 300 guests rumoured to be attending we would recommend at least a 6 tier cake. Due to such a large and open venue Pippa will need a large cake to make an impact.
While The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a traditional design for her wedding to Prince William in 2011 we predict Pippa’s wedding cake will be more modern and contemporary. Rather than ivory we think Pippa will opt for fresh white icing with an abundance of sugar flowers in whites and blush. Instead of lots of exquisite sugar pipework we predict Pippa’s cake will have less detailing and let the sugar flowers do the talking.
Obviously the cake should taste as good as it looks. For a spring wedding in such an outdoor setting we would recommend light fresh flavours. Lemon sponge with lemon curd and lemon zest buttercream, or white chocolate and raspberry sponge with raspberry preserve and white chocolate buttercream.
So here it is. Our prediction of Pippa Middleton’s Wedding Cake. After Saturday we’ll hopefully see how close we were.
