All your wedding cake questions answered
You’re getting married! Happy days!! You get to plan a day surrounded by your family and friends and best of all –there’s wedding cake!!
At La Belle we understand that choosing a wedding cake can be a bit of an overwhelming process. It’s probably the largest cake you will ever have purchased, the choice out there is HUGE so understandably you will have a lot of questions.
We want to make the process a little bit easier for you so here is our guide to the
10 most commonly asked questions asked by our couples.
How much will it cost?
As all cakes are bespoke it is hard to give a definitive answer. Lots of people ask us why we do not include specific pricing for our wedding cakes on our website. The basic answer is that it is just impossible; literally every wedding cake design is different. Our three tier wedding cakes start from £500 upwards and four tiers from £575 and prices are dependant on the level of decoration and the work involved.
A good bit of advice for trying to work out a budget is that if you have had a quote from one cake maker phone a couple of others with the same specifications to give you an average as to what you can expect to spend BUT don’t’ just base it on price. Go and meet your cake makers, try their cakes and get a good look at the quality of their work. There is a good reason they charge what they do. Remember the saying that you get what you pay for – it it seems to good to be true then it generally is.
Do you deliver on the day?
We certainly do – you (or your bridal party) don’t want the responsibility of picking up the cake.
We liaise directly with your wedding venue and deliver your wedding cake on the day of your wedding ready for you to cut as man and wife.
What size cake do I need?
This is all dependent on the number of guests. Ideally you want a slice of cake for each of your evening guests. For 100 – 120 guests you would be looking at a three tier cake, 150-200 guests you would need a four tier.
Looking at something a little bigger? – then add a false tier!! All the height you want without the hefty price tag!
Can I have different flavours in each tier?
Yes certainly you can! You can also have a fruit cake as the top tier with sponge tiers underneath.
With over 15 flavours to chose from you will be spoilt for choice!
Can you cater for allergies?
We want everyone to be able to enjoy your cake on your special day so we cater for gluten free, dairy free, and egg free amongst others. You don’t need to have your whole cake made to cater for the allergies – you can have one tier! Or how about individual cupcakes for those people with allergies? They will appreciate the thought.
If you advise us of any dietary requirements we can provide samples of these at your design and taste consultation.
Do you supply a cake stand?
We have a large selection of cake stands for my brides and grooms to choose from traditional silver stands to more modern pedestal stands. It is worth checking if your venue has a cake stand. Even if there is a slight hire charge at least it is one less thing to have to worry about returning after the wedding.
Do you design bespoke cakes or do I have to pick one from your portfolio? If I have seen a cake elsewhere can you replicate it?
As a cake designer I feel all brides should have a bespoke cake. My portfolio is there as a reference to my skills and the quality of my work. I am more than happy for brides to bring me images and scrap books but rather then exactly replicating someone else’s cakes I will work with my brides to create something unique to them.
When will you start baking my wedding cake?
We start baking the week of the wedding and no earlier. You want your cake to be fresh and tasty on your big day and we don’t use any additives or preservatives!!
Can I see a picture of my finished cake before the wedding?
Of course. We understand that it is sometimes hard for brides & grooms to picture the end product so we will text and/or email brides (if they wish) a picture of the cake the day before their wedding. We will also arrange a viewing appointment with brides so if you wish you can come and see your wedding cake before delivery. This way if you want any minor changes made it can be done.
(appointments will be made upon the payment of the final balance)
How far in advance should I order my cake?
Once you have found the cake maker that offers you everything you are looking for – as soon as possible!!! That way you are safe in the knowledge that your date is secure and you have secured the perfect cake maker for you. Leave it too late and you could be disappointed. At La Belle Cake Company we understand that details change so when you pay your deposit you do not book a cake – you book your date. We can confirm all the final details such as design and flavours nearer the time. All we ask is that everything is finalised 4 weeks prior to the wedding.
Got a question that we haven’t answered? That’s ok! We like questions. Send it over to us in an email to email@example.com
