2016 Wedding Cake Trends
Now that 2016 is underway what better time to start organising your wedding cake. Your wedding cake can be inspired by just about anything – your venue, beautiful detail on your wedding dress, even the personal monogram on your wedding invitation – cake designs for 2016 truly are a work of art. Here’s our look at 2016 Wedding Cake Trends.
White on White Wedding Cakes
An all white wedding cake will always look chic. A beautiful white canvas decorated with all white embellishments such as hand piped detailing or white sugar petals dress up otherwise plain tiers. Double height tiers give the tier a more modern twist
Naked Wedding Cakes
Naked wedding cakes are still popular as we start 2016 and see no sign of disappearing anytime soon – even Angelina Jolie apparently went naked on her wedding day. Decorate the exposed layers with season fruits or fresh flowers to match your bouquet. A strip of lace adds a beautiful vintage feel.
Ruffled Wedding Cakes
Ruffled wedding cakes have an elegant look to them, often taking inspiration from the bridal gown. There are many ways to enhance you cake with ruffles; why not be bold and have them all over or use them to add dramatic texture to just one or two tiers.
Handpainted Wedding Cakes
Hand painting is a wonderful way to make the wedding cake truly personal. From the lyrics to your first dance to silhouettes of the couple -the beauty of this design is you can have what you like showcased on your wedding cake.
Metallic Wedding Cakes
From stylised art-deco to the old-Hollywood look, metallic icing can add an elegant expensive look. If an entire tier is too much for you than why not pick out details instead.
Lace Wedding Cakes
Ever since the Duchess of Cambridge stepped out in her lace wedding dress, the “Kate” effect took hold and four years later lace wedding dresses are as popular as ever. A lot of brides have the lace detail of their wedding dresses replicated onto their cakes. The key to this is to find a cake maker that is skilled in hand piping, who will be able to recreate your lace in edible form.
Sugar Flower Cakes
Flowers and wedding cakes come hand in hand. From a full cascade to a sprinkling of petals, a tied cake topper to the cake being separated with flowers the possibilities are endless. You can even have sugar roses piped directly onto the cake.
Rustic/Woodland Weddding Cakes
With the rustic theme being carried through to 2016, woodland and rustic wedding cakes are still a firm favourite with brides. Think textured icing on a tree trunk base. Our ‘Cake in a Crate’ is proving to be as popular in 2016 and it was in 2015.
