How to make the most of your wedding cake consultation!
You’ve done your research, you’ve whittled down the cake makers and you’re ready to take the next step! Here’s how to get the most out of your consultation.
Before the consultation:
Have a wedding date and a venue booked! Weddings are a very exciting time and understandably everybody wants to jump in with the planning but without any firm details in place then there will be so many questions that will affect your cake design that you won’t have the answer too. You also run the risk of falling in love with a cake maker who may then not be available on your chosen day when you do finally book.
When you make your appointment let the cake maker know if there are any particular flavours you would like to try and if you have any allergies or food intolerences so these can be catered for. If your cake maker doesn’t offer samples at a consultation then proceed with caution – after all it’s important your cake tastes as good as it looks.
Get together some ideas that you like – pictures of cakes, mood boards etc and if you have any details that you would like incorporated such as a motif from your stationery or lace from your dress bring it all with you. This will help the cake maker get to know you better and get an understanding of the feel and style that you are going for.
At the consultation:
We advise that you bring only one or two people with you. The saying too many cooks is never truer than in a wedding cake consultation. Every body has different design ideas and favourite flavours and all the different opinions flying about can get very overwhelming.
Whilst its understandable that you want to try and satisfy everybody and chose flavours that everybody likes, remember that ultimate the day is all about you two. Chose the flavours you want – not what you think everyone else wants.
It’s best not to be hungry during a tasting so you can be more objective so have a light snack before you go. (This will also help you avoid a sugar rush). Have a drink of water between each sample so not to mix the flavours other wise they will all taste the same ( like when you smell too much perfume and it all smells the same). For this same reason it’s best not to book all your cake tastings for the same day!
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and if you aren’t sure about anything then say – us cake makers don’t bite!
Most importantly – HAVE FUN!!
Has all this talk put you in the mood for cake? Then why not get in touch and book your design and taste consultation.
